Families that have children with disabilities face a multitude of difficulties, varying between what services are needed for their child’s specific disability. Below are a few examples of real life parents, the issues they face, and how The Open Horizons Foundation would greatly impact and improve the lives of them and their children.
“My son is Level 3 Autistic, nonverbal, and bigger for his age. His physical outbursts and eloping are hard to deal with, and access ABA therapy without a year-long waitlist in our area isn’t possible even though we live in a rather fast-growing area. The Open Horizons Foundation providing access to ABA therapy to lessen the wait time for us would be a huge relief – and allow us to receive the therapy he needed close to home.”
“My son has a rare neurological disorder that shortens his lifespan drastically. While he can speak, play, and is even potty trained, he has seizures and requires a g-tube for nutrition. Not once has a daycare ever been willing to help learn about his g-tube or how to feed him, nor were they ever willing to be trained on his seizures in the event he had one in their care. The Open Horizations Foundation building a center would give me an option for after school care for him that would allow him to get all the social benefits of being around other kids while having nursing intervention when it was medically required.”
“My daughter had three strokes when she was born and as a result, has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy Level 2, Autism Level 1, Moderate Intellectual Disability, among several others. We live in a rural area, so finding not only nursing care but a high-quality center for physical, occupational, speech, and feeding therapy has been almost impossible. The Open Horizons Foundation being able to connect me to those types of therapies would allow us the opportunity to turn her deficits into delays and her disabilities into abilities.”
